Marina 101 is a 3-hour marina industry introduction course on Tuesday, January 14th from 8:00am-11:00am. This course is geared towards those individuals, with little or no marina experience, looking to get into the industry by way of an advancement opportunity, career shift, or an interest in purchasing or developing a marina.
The Marina 101 course is made up of 9 individual presentations, created and presented by Carl F. Wolf, CMM CMI and former President of the International Marina Institute. The presentations will give you an insight preview of the various aspects in the operations of a marina. Presentations include day-to-day and seasonal operations, maintenance, emergency preparedness, long-term planning, financial reports, and the various roles of a marina manager. To get the most out of your learning experience, join the Marina Study Tour immediately following this course.

Protection of marinas from storm waves and boat wakes is a constant and chronic need. However for a myriad of reasons, whether cost, environmental impact, or simply aesthetics, fixed breakwater structures are often not the preferred solution to the problem. Floating wave attenuators offer an alternative to these fixed structures but are not equivalent in all respects. Floating wave attenuators have very specific capabilities, but more importantly, have physical limitations in terms of the range of site conditions where they can be effective. While there are many examples of installations of floating attenuators throughout the world, there has heretofore been no reliable or generally accepted means to properly estimate the expected performance, and worse, there is very little documentation of the true performance.
This class, targeted largely to planners, designers and vendors of such systems, is intended to present the evolution of floating weave attenuators over the past half century, introduce the theory of wave attenuation, and present tools to estimate honest expectations for performance of such a system. These methods are the result of the merging of various theories that have been developed over time which did provide apparently reasonable estimates of true performance. They now appear and are published as the recommended methodology for evaluating floating wave attenuators. The course will then extend for the performance theory discussion to examine how to estimate forces on the floating pontoons. The class will then be given instruction in how to design a simple, but proper mooring system, whether pile restrained, or catenary moored, or other techniques
