Human Resource Management
Jim Schuman is a partner at Fortune, Alsweet, Weiss & Schuman, Inc., a management-consulting firm. Based in Los Angeles since 1954, Jim and his associates represent developers, property owners, private sector employers and general contractors in all facets of human resources and labor relations. Joining the firm in 1981, Jim has since assisted regional, state, national and international clients resolve personnel issues and administrative claims and charges throughout the United States. For over 25 years, he has served as the labor consultant to Westrec marinas regarding employment issues and, since 1995, has successfully negotiated the required collective bargaining agreements between Westrec's Chicago Harbors and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
Jim was invited to join the AMI Faculty in 2005 and has thoroughly enjoyed the many opportunities to meet and coach committed marina focused individuals who will be the industry leaders in the years ahead. It is always an exciting and rewarding experience to participate in their mentoring process.
An educator by training, Jim has frequent opportunities to coach leadership teams, mentor high potential candidates and facilitate staff development processes, most recently for a joint venture construction partner at the $1.5 billion LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal expansion project. Jim holds degrees in psychology from the University of California, and has been privileged to be a guest lecturer in labor relations and construction management at the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Southern California for over 25 years.
